Joe Henry Baker (b. 1989, London) is a self-taught abstract artist and multidisciplinary designer whose work spans painting, sculpture, interiors, and object-making. His practice centers on expanding the definition of a traditional fine-art canvas, approaching each piece as both a constructed object and a performative site for mark-making.

Drawing from backgrounds in design, interiors, and furniture, Baker continually investigates materiality, often crafting his own tools and incorporating humble, non-art materials. The physical act of making—stretching, building, assembling, and ultimately painting—forms a core part of his process. Large gestural movements and the tactile resistance of materials shape the structural, yet ethereal forms that emerge.

His works unfold through a balance of intention and surrender, embracing real-time reactions to surface, texture, and medium. By relinquishing control and allowing the process to surprise him, Baker creates works that invite viewers into an immersive space of curiosity and wonder.

He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
